You may not be able to completely redecorate your home, but there are some things you can do spice it up.
Here’s some tips for sprucing up your home to get it ready for a short sale:
Paint
Paint is one of the most inexpensive ways to revive your home. There’s no need to get fancy, simple flat white paint will brighten any room and present a clean slate that will make it easier for potential buyers to envision themselves in the home.
Spring Clean (or whichever season)
The home should be in a neat and presentable condition. It’s a good idea to pack away items that don’t fit or don’t belong. A stack of books on the floor may seem normal to you, but to someone who’s looking to buy, that stack might be an eyesore.
So be sure everything is tucked away neatly and that all rooms are clean and tidy. Dust, wash windows and vacuum the floors. Make sure the kitchen and bathroom(s) smell fresh and are free of clutter.
Mow the Lawn
Again, you don’t have to get fancy, just make sure the grass has been cut, leaves or dead grass has been raked away, and that there’s no trash or unkempt items in the yard. You don’t need to redo landscaping, but if there are bushes that need pruning or vegetation that has become overgrown, it will ruin the curb appeal, and could turn a potential home buyer’s drive by into a drive away.
These are just a few ways you can get your home ready for a short sale. You don’t need to go out and hire a professional decorator or steal ideas from HGTV, to ensure that your home is presented at its best. It might require some elbow grease, but it’s an inexpensive method that can increase your chances of selling your home quickly. For more information, read Short Sale Help for Sellers.
